Travel Insurance is absolutely vital

Filed under: Insurance — admin @ 12:19 pm

Along with your passport, boarding pass & traveller’s cheques, travel insurance is something you should be carrying on all your travels. While you may be sceptical and rule it out as an unnecessary expense, many hapless travellers find out the hard way, the price of not having travel insurance when they arrive at their destinations with little more than the clothes on their back.

Travel insurance protects you from everything that could go wrong when you are away from home- lost baggage, theft, medical emergencies or cancelled flights. However, not all insurance policies protect you from all of these possibilities, and therefore you need to shop for ones that take care of most of these items.

Shopping for travel insurance should generally include looking at what reputed providers have, and comparing them to your requirements. For instance, if your travel agent insures you against delayed or cancelled flights, you may exclude that from the coverage you need when you look for policies. Similarly, if you have international health insurance or contents insurance, you won’t need travel insurance for these. However, its best to first check with your current insurance provider.

If you are a cautious traveller, or plan to travel with family, it is a good idea to consider insurance premiums as part of your travel expenses right from the time you start making travel. This way, you will have a clearer idea of how much this trip is costing you.

Regardless of where you go, travel insurance helps you travel safer and secure. While it cannot prevent mishaps, it gives you the security that you can get back most of what you have lost.
